FROZEN Winter Wonderland
created at Doernbecher Children's Hospital
December 2014.
News Coverage below!
The oncology unit at Doernbecher Children's Hospital was truly transformed into a magical FROZEN Winter Wonderland and the kiddos are just absolutely LOVING it!
As soon as you enter the unit, you are instantly splashed with colorful Frozen holiday cheer.
Life size figures of Anna, Elsa, Olaf and Sven are there to greet you with hope and love, and they truly bring this magical Frozen Winter Wonderland to life.
We sprinkled Anna, Elsa and Olaf love in every lil' place we could find :)
Throughout the hallways and along the bottoms of the nurses stations...
...on all of the doors...
...under the tree...
...every single place that needed a splash of holiday cheer :)
Frozen clusters hang outside of each and every window.
Then of course the FROZEN Christmas Tree!
Stunning. Hits you with a blast of Frozen love right when
you walk in the door.
Thank you SO MUCH Julie Tate for donating this beauty!
Anna & Elsa hope chest at the bottom of the Frozen Christmas tree.
Anna and Elsa are glowing & gleaming throughout the entire tree :)
Of course our lil' love Hunter shines-on delivering some
cool holiday spirit :)
Warm holiday wishes, Angels, trees and clusters
are sprinkled about the halls.
We try to spruce up every nook and cranny that we discover.
This Olaf already existed thanks to Crystal Henshen...
so we just basically had to build our wonderful world around him ;)
And then of course we do the entire clinic side where all the lil' warriors come in
for their check-ups :)
This side was decorated in the classic Christmas red style.
Hope clusters :)

Our beautiful snow Angel tree :)
And we have to highlight the Portland Firefighters of course who have sweetly assisted us over the last 3 years! Super, fantastic help :) Hunter's dad, Portland Firefighter Todd Thawley, heads the crew once they arrive and puts them to work stringing together icicle lights, bright holiday tinsel and fluffy & feathery snowflakes. They help hang the big colorful wreaths, beautiful bows and poppy clusters. They put up all the trees, which is now (3) 7-footers and about 20 spunky, sparkly ones. They swoop in like troopers, always with wonderful smiles, slam out a TON of decorating and then head off on their merry lil' way. THANK YOU Station 4 for helping us create the magical land in which these awesome lil' courageous fighters will escape to for the entire month of December.
Your assistance is greatly appreciated and your warm holiday cheer is always welcome :)
The rest of the fabulous crew that assisted with decorating this year was outstanding!
Many talented people with a very good eye for design. Thank goodness for that
because there is a crazy amount of decorating that needs to get done in one sweet day!

Her dad, Todd, is also pretty darn awesome ;)
This fantastic project has turned into something so completely wonderful. So many loving hands participating year after year to help create such a spectacular holiday atmosphere
for all of those cool lil' fighters and their families.
The families & staff appreciate it beyond belief, the visitors are totally "wowed" and the kids definitely feel the enormous amounts of love that comes in every December to take over their unit & deck the halls with our bright holiday cheer.
Thank you so very much to everyone who was involved. Such a huge collaboration between all of our amazing supporters and volunteers. And a very special thank you to Portland Fire & Rescue for their amazing assistance year after year.
Sweet holiday blessings and tremendous amounts of holiday cheer to each and every one of you!!!!

Winter Wonderland PRESS RELEASE:
Kid's with Cancer will Spend the
Holidays in a "Frozen" Winter Wonderland
In Honor of Boy Who Lost His Life
Portland, Oregon, Tuesday – 12.02.2014
At 11 a.m. today, parents of 3-year-old Hunter who lost his battle with cancer will be decorating the OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital oncology unit. This year the decorations are escalating to a whole new level that includes top to bottom glitz and glamour from the hit movie Frozen including life-size Frozen figures of Anna, Elsa, Olaf and Sven.
This holiday season marks the fourth year in a row the Healing Hunter Foundation has brought children with cancer and their families at OHSU Doernbecher a magical winter wonderland. With a little help from Portland firefighters and an awesome league of generous volunteers - the halls get a spectacular & magical makeover, sure to bring smiles and Christmas joy to those courageous, cancer warriors spending their precious holidays in the hospital.
Parents Lenore & Todd Thawley created the Healing Hunter Foundation on behalf of their son Hunter, a charismatic little boy that spent many holidays in the hospital battling Acute Myeloid Leukemia. In March of 2010, Hunter lost his battle with cancer.
Since then, Todd has become a Portland firefighter and his wife, Lenore, has made a positive impact in the children’s cancer community with her passionate and dedicated foundation work. Together they hope to spread a little holiday cheer to those that need it most.
Healing Hunter Foundation – Fighting Childhood Cancers, One Smile at a Time, Through Random Acts of Kindness.
The Healing Hunter Foundation’s mission is three fold: bring smiles to children suffering from cancer, increase bone marrow and cord blood donations, and assist families dealing with childhood cancers.
